PRESS REVIEWS
November 2025
You can sense that this is a close-knit team, united by a shared passion and determination. We tasted mainly wines from the 2022 and 2023 vintages, as Stefan prefers to let his wines mature for longer before releasing them onto the market.

Under the leadership of Steffen James Montigny, now assisted by Stefan Schmidt, the winery has made a name for itself with straightforward, taut wines that faithfully reflect their terroir in the Rieslings and explore the perfect combination of richness and elegance in the Burgundy varieties.

2024 Kreuznacher Grauer Burgunder trocken – ORTSWEIN
Bright straw yellow in the glass, ripe apricots, candied lemon and orange, cantaloupe melon, freshly ground hazelnuts. Harmonious and lively on the palate, with juicy fruit and lively acidity, balanced and refreshingly easy to drink.

At the German Red Wine Awards organized by VINUM, our new estate wine
2023 Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot dry
achieved an impressive 86 points, earning it the silver medal. We are delighted with this award for our small, yet somehow also BIG newcomer.
Medium purple red. Restrained nose, characterized by dark berries. Tobacco. Orange. A simple, well-made wine. Easy to drink, honest, and uncomplicated. A summer cuvée. Delicate oak tones underscore its cheerful character.

The results of the Falstaff “Sparkling Trophy 2025” were announced in the new special edition “Falstaff Special.” Our new
2020 Blanc de Blancs Sekt Brut Nature
scored an outstanding 94 points, placing it among the top 6 Chardonnay sparkling wines in Germany. We are delighted to receive this award.
Very spicy on the nose, not only from the yeast but also with aromas of licorice, iodine, hay, and pimpinella. The mousseux is very fresh, exciting, and delicate, accompanied by intense tactile minerality. A crisp, lean, yet very expressive sparkling wine. 94 points

At the Falstaff “Chardonnay Trophy 2025,” we are delighted to have received an outstanding rating for our
2022 Bretzenheimer Chardonnay dry – VILLAGE WINE
A closed, reserved bouquet. Flax, fresh, sweet corn, and a hint of apple. The palate opens smoothly, then reveals plenty of juiciness and a chalky texture, ending with tactile sensations and aromas reminiscent of spontaneous fermentation. Culinary!

July 2025
We are delighted with the excellent rating our
2024 Hinterm Deich Solaris
Delicately spicy aroma, with hints of mandarin and gooseberry. The palate is powerful, almost full-bodied, but also very harmonious thanks to its extract and the balanced interplay of sweetness and acidity. The finish condenses the phenolic background into a piquant astringency.

Our wine of the future also achieved an outstanding result
2024 SO MOOKT WI DAT weiß
A hint of paprika and grass clippings, with an aroma reminiscent of Sauvignon. The palate has an impressive structure, dense, with a hint of tart phenolic notes in a positive sense and a quite noticeable but well-balanced sweetness. A PIWI full of character from Schleswig-Holstein.

July 2025
We are delighted with the latest rating for our
2023 Rosenheck Riesling Kabinett
at the falstaff “Riesling feinherb & fruchtig Trophy 2025”
Slightly petrolly on first contact, floral and citrus aromas gradually unfold in the glass, followed by berry Riesling fruit. On the palate, this is a well-balanced Kabinett with fine juiciness and good body and length. The acidity is stable, but also hints at a certain warmth from the site and vintage.

The wine magazine wein.plus has named our winery
Discovery of the Year.
This is a truly great honor for our still young winery and confirmation that we are on the right track.
Steffen Montigny and Stefan Schmidt produce distinctly lean, cool, and light wines, primarily from Riesling and Burgundy varieties, whose clarity and precision clearly reflect the meticulousness with which they are produced. The goal of the now certified organic winery is to restore the vineyards in Bad Kreuznach, formerly owned by Anheuser, to their former glory.

The history of this winery began in 2013, when Steffen Montigny was offered the vineyards of the once highly regarded Ökonomierat August E. Anheuser winery. Since then, Montigny—now supported by cellar master Stefan Schmidt—has been transforming these outstanding sites into wines with strong character. This is also evident this year in the Rieslings from the Krötenpfuhl, Aufm Schlossberg, Narrenkappe, and Steinberg sites, which delight with their intense fruit and plenty of spice.
This year’s collection is a big step in the right direction! The new Riesling Von den Großen Lagen has a lovely floral and herbal aroma and is rich in extract on the palate, yet still elegant. The Pinot Noirs are also well made, even if they still show a slight tendency toward reduction, which promises enjoyment and aging potential. We are rewarding Stefan Schmidt’s hard work and passion with an upgrade.
